(just a thought but it would have made our wait SO much better). Broccoli is super easy to get fresh year round. They have very little on the menu that doesn't have meat of some sort. The bad: We waited a really long time for a seat (granted, we were a decent sized group) but the hostess wasn't the best communicator. The manager (or owner) said "thank you" and "have a nice night" on our way out the door. I really like that they serve multiple things for kids. I like that they had a lot of sides to choose from. I love that they have sweet potatoes baked or fried. The good: I never had peanut slaw before and it was really good. Over the years the food at Fireside has seriously slipped, and with the exception of one or two pleasant waitresses in the dining room, the staff is unwelcoming, starting with a grim barmaid. Put some pizzazz into your food presentation. Suggestion to owner: You should be present to train, monitor and supervise your staff or hire someone to do so. And judging by the unappealing way the kitchen arranges main courses and sides, there's no management back there either. There's no front room manager at the Fireside supervising the sullen staff including a barmaid deep in conversation with what appear to be regulars while ignoring other diners. And get a supply of peppercorns so you can refill them. Suggestion to owner: Buy a case of pepper mills. I'd give it another try but I won't have high expectations. The waitstaff were very friendly as was the bartender who thanked us for coming as we left. ![]() This is a place that definately has the feel of a neighborhood place. As it turns out their menu shows a Red and a White Zin so I guess this was an issue of waitstaff not knowing their inventory. My husband enjoyed two local beers and I ordered a glass of Zin but was told they only had white Zin so I ordered a Pinot Noir instead. Mac and Cheese was uninspired and peanut slaw (which our waitress said is the only slaw she eats) was heavy on vinegar with raw peanuts added. Pulled pork had a very sweet jarred variety sauce. Mashed potatoes had burned clumps throughout from obviously being scorched sitting in bainmarie. Chicken skin looked crisp but was rubbery. I opted for the roasted half chicken with mashed potatoes and mixed veg. My husband And I started by sharing a Caesar salad. We were taken to the dining room and given a booth under a drafty air conditioner. The game was on behind the bar which was full of people. Upon entering we were greeted warmly by waitstaff in football jerseys. Then they showed up a couple of hours later and shut off the water to our whole area so they could fix the break, said operator Clarence Taylor. After a day spent on a long country drive we swung off the Taconic to catch dinner. I have been wanting to check this place out for awhile now.
